My Own Advice - William Black, ILLENIUM, Alana Springsteen
The Do Selfish Well Newsletter’s Introspection Song of the Week series is meant to aid your self-exploration by uniquely tying songs with thought-provoking topics that get you to think about yourself in new ways. Check out the full-length newsletters for more in-depth discussions on select topics.
Think about the times another person was struggling with an issue and asked for your advice. Did you try to help them? What did you say? How did you say it? What was your tone like? How did it feel for that person to have asked you in particular for advice?
Now think about a time you were struggling with a similar type of issue. Did you try to help yourself? Did you ask someone else for help if you didn’t know how to? If you tried to help yourself, what did you say to yourself? How did you say it? What was your tone like?
Notice if there are any differences between the two scenarios above. We can sometimes find it easier to offer help than to ask for help. We can also be susceptible to talking to ourselves in a way that we wouldn’t talk to another person.
But does that sit well with you?
Take Care of Yourself,
